Kitchen!

  • Apr. 27th, 2008 at 2:19 PM

Hi friends - I would love to show you some pictures of our kitchen. It is not finished yet, but we've made a lot of progress. And you can see the pretty green color of our walls. Click here! Hasn't Joel done a great job with the counters (that aren't finished quite yet)?

I'm really thinking that I'm going to go with orange as an accent color. So if any of you know where I can find some orange fabric with little birdies on it, I would love to know!

Yay!

We painted our kitchen green this weekend, and I love it! All that worrying for nothing. I’ll post pictures soon.

Also, It’s “Wellness Week” at work and I played, “Meal or No Meal” during lunch ... And I won 2 tickets to Valleyfair! I’m so excited. That’s roughly $70 I saved!

We had this whole weekend free, it was absolutely incredible. On Saturday morning, we went to Ikea to buy our kitchen countertops. Walking around, looking at the kitchens to make sure we were absolutely certain which countertops we wanted, Rosemary started singing, "Jesus is my friend, Jesus is my friend, Jesus is my friend; and I'm so glad we're friends." She wasn't just singing; she was bolting it out at the top of her lungs. I thought it was funny, but I'm sure some people found it annoying. The child is absolutely nuts about singing and music. She's got this little toy piano that and she carries it around with her from room to room. She likes to play it and sing, "twinkle twinkle little star." But she doesn't want anyone else to sing with her.

Anyway, we bought our countertops (and a few other things, oops) and we only spent $130. For all of the countertops in our kitchen.

Then we stopped at Jon and Lindsay's house to see their kitchen flooring. People have been raving about the VCT floor tiling that they have and I had seen samples at Home Depot, but I just needed to see an actual floor. We LOVED it, so we went to Home Depot and placed an order. We're going to have a Humus and Camel Brown (brown and lighter brown) checkerboard kitchen floor. The whole thing will cost us less than $150. We were anticipating $500 for our floors. And, we can lay it down on top of our linoleum flooring. So, it just keeps getting better and better.

I really wanted to try to be a little greener about all of this, but we just can't. The main goal right now is to get our kitchen looking decent for the least amount of money. And, unfortunately recycled countertops and cork flooring just didn't fit the "least amount of money" goal.

So, since the whole day cost us less money than we had anticipated, we decided it would be okay to buy our kitchen sink and faucet at Home Depot. We've been looking on craigslist for months and just haven't found anything. We picked out a white cast iron sink and just a normal faucet.

Also, Home Depot has a big sale on Behr paint (now through Wednesday, $5 off per gallon), so I decided to stop waivering on the paint color and just pick something. It's frustrating because I always lean toward green and I worry about having too much green. But, if I love the color ... can I really have too much? All I have to say is that whoever lives in our house next is going to have to love the color green.

I'm really getting excited about this kitchen. Thank you, thank you, Tax Refund.

Edit:
You can see pictures of the countertops and flooring here.
